Ok ok, I know it sounds provocative, but not the psychedlic kind. LOL. But I am diving into non-alcoholic drinks now.
Let me be clear about something first. Non-alcoholic whiskey, non-alcoholic wine, non-alcoholic beer — I don’t get it. If I’m going to drink, I’m just going to drink. A watered-down version of the thing I’m trying to avoid is not the vibe, and it’s not the point.
What actually changed things for me was stumbling across Hiyo on sale in the beverage aisle at Whole Foods. I wasn’t even looking for an alcohol alternative — I was just trying to find a new flavored drink. But something about it caught my eye, and I’m glad it did.
Hiyo is an organic social tonic made with mushroom adaptogens like lion’s mane, ashwagandha and passionflower. The flavors are genuinely good — no bitterness, no weird aftertaste, just actually tasty. And yes, people online say they’ve never felt “the float” but I feel it every single time. After a hard week, one or two of these and I am wound down, sleeping through the night like I have somewhere to be in the morning.

But then I needed more. Specifically, I needed this concept… in Black-owned. Because I love my people, and if there are Black women doing it better, I’m finding them.
That’s how I found Sensori. Black women-owned and based out of Dallas, and they did not come to play — well, actually they did, literally. I grabbed their combo pack with both Connect and Play and I had to have it the second I saw it.
Connect is the one for slow nights — calming botanicals and functional mushrooms that help you actually decompress.
Play is the one that had me feeling uplifted and giggly in the best way. Blood orange, a little habanero heat, cocktail energy without a single drop of alcohol or the morning regret that comes with it.

These aren’t fake versions of alcohol. They’re something completely different, and honestly, something better. (or at least what i will choose as better while I continue to kick the alcohol!!)
