Let’s talk about knowing when it’s time to level up! Because whew, as Black women, we’re constantly juggling ALL the things while trying to figure out our next move.
Sometimes, you just feel it in your spirit that something needs to change. That gut feeling when you wake up like “this ain’t it no more” – trust that feeling.
Let me break down some signs that had me (and probably you) realizing it was time to pivot.
You’re Feeling Stuck AF
No, deadass, when did you last feel excited about where you’re at? If you’re dragging yourself through the motions, whether it’s that 9-5 that used to light you up or relationships that feel more draining than fulfilling, baby… that’s your first sign.
What you can do about it:
Get yourself a journal, it can be the notes app on your phone or a tape recorder…(yes, really) and pour it ALL out. What’s making you feel like you’re THAT girl vs. what’s making you feel like “get me tf outta here.” Trust me, patterns start to jump off the page quickly when you get it all out.
The Growth is GONE
If you’re not learning, growing, or being challenged anymore? That comfort zone has turned into a cage. And let me tell you something – we didn’t come this far, only to come this far!
What you can do about it:
Start small, but start somewhere. Maybe it’s that certification you’ve been eyeing or that side hustle idea living rent-free in your head. Whatever it is – take that first step.
Your Circle is Shifting
Ever notice how some friendships just… feel different now? Maybe conversations that used to light you up feel surface level, or you’re connecting with new people who just GET IT. That’s not random, sis.
What you can do about it:
Pay attention to who makes you feel seen vs. who makes you feel small. And don’t feel guilty about gravitating toward people who match your energy & ambition.
Those Patterns Keep Playing
If you’re looking at your life like, “damn, why does this keep happening?” – whether it’s work drama, relationship cycles, or personal struggles – the universe is trying to tell you something.
What you can do about it:
Get some support. Whether that’s therapy, coaching, or mentorship. Sometimes, we need fresh eyes to see what we’ve been missing.

That Personal Awakening Hit Different
Sometimes, life throws you a plot twist that changes EVERYTHING. Could be good, could be challenging, but it makes you question everything you thought you knew about your path.
What you can do about it:
Sit with it.
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
- What legacy are you trying to leave?
Get clear on that vision because that’s your compass for what’s next.
When Staying Still Feels Scarier Than Moving
Change is scary AF. But you know what’s scarier? Looking back five years from now, wondering “What if?”
What you can do about it:
Feel the fear and do it anyway. Use that nervous energy as fuel. Because growth? It’s on the other side of comfortable.

That Vision Won’t Leave You Alone
You know that dream that keeps you up at night? The one you can’t shake no matter how many times you try to be “realistic”? Yeah, that one. It’s not going anywhere because it’s YOURS to chase.
What you can do about it:
Start. Wherever you are, with whatever you got. Perfect timing doesn’t exist, but perfect opportunities do – and they come from taking imperfect action.
Here’s the thing about pivoting as a Black woman – we’re often carrying everybody else’s expectations along with our own. But listen… your growth? That’s YOURS. Your dreams? Those are YOURS. And that next level you’re feeling called to? It’s waiting for you.
Take it from someone who’s been there – the pivot isn’t always pretty, but it’s always worth it. Trust your gut, honor your journey, and remember: you’re not just changing directions; you’re leveling up your whole life.
