Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 20, 2026

Lo In The City is my little corner of the internet, and I want you to feel safe hanging out here. This page explains what information I collect when you visit, what I do with it, and the choices you have. If anything here raises a question, you can always reach me at hello@lointhecity.com.

Who runs this site

Lo In The City is owned and operated by Alicia Renee. When this policy says “I,” “me,” or “my,” that’s who you’re dealing with. One person, not a faceless company.

What I collect

When you join the email list. If you sign up for my newsletter, I collect your email address, and your name if you choose to give it. That’s it.

When you buy something from the shop. If you place an order, I collect the details needed to actually get your item to you: your name, email address, shipping address, and order details. Your payment card information is handled directly by my payment processors and is never stored by me or on my site.

When you use the contact form. If you send me a message, I collect the name, email address, and whatever you write in your note so I can reply.

Automatically, as you browse. Like most websites, mine collects some standard technical information on its own, such as your browser type, general location, the pages you visit, and how you got here. This comes from analytics and works through cookies (more on those below).

How I use your information

I use what I collect to:

  • Send you the newsletter and the wallpaper you signed up for
  • Process, ship, and follow up on your orders
  • Reply to messages you send me
  • Understand which posts people actually read, so I can make the site better
  • Keep the site secure and working

I do not sell your personal information. I do not rent it out or trade it.

Who I share it with

I keep your information to myself, with one practical exception: I use trusted third-party services to actually run the site, and some of your information passes through them so they can do their job. These currently include:

  • MailPoet, which powers my email list and sends the newsletter
  • Stripe and PayPal, which process payments securely
  • Pirate Ship and USPS, which handle shipping and delivery of orders
  • Jetpack and Akismet (by Automattic), which help run my contact form, filter spam, and provide site statistics
  • Bluehost, which hosts the website

Each of these has its own privacy practices. I share only what they need to perform their service, nothing more.

Affiliate links

Some posts, especially book reviews, contain affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These links can set their own cookies through the retailer’s program. It never changes what you pay.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. Mine uses them to keep your shopping cart working, remember your preferences, and gather anonymous statistics about how the site is used. You can turn cookies off in your browser settings anytime, though a few features like the cart may not work as smoothly if you do.

Your choices

Unsubscribing. Every newsletter I send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click it, and you’re off the list, no questions asked.

Access or deletion. You can ask me what personal information I hold about you, or ask me to delete it, by emailing hello@lointhecity.com. I’ll take care of it.

California residents. If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to request its deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. I don’t sell your data, so there’s nothing to opt out of on that front. To make a request, email me at the address above.

How long I keep your information

I hold onto your information only as long as I need it for the purpose I collected it, or as long as the law requires (order records, for example, need to be kept for tax purposes). After that, I delete it.

Children

This site is meant for adults. It isn’t directed at children under 16, and I don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given me their information, email me, and I’ll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If I update how I handle your information, I’ll update this page and change the “last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be noted clearly.
