Exploring Monterey’s Charms

As we ventured from San Francisco to Monterey during the bustling Memorial Day weekend, we embarked on a scenic two-hour drive, savoring the coastal views along the way. Upon reaching our destination, the Monterey Plaza Hotel, we relished delightful cocktails while eagerly anticipating our dinner reservation at Schooners.

Immersing in Culinary Delights

Prior to our trip, we sought recommendations from friends and coworkers, which led us to Schooners for a delectable dining experience. Although the food left us wanting for more, the cocktails stole the show, adding a touch of vibrancy to our evening. Following a few [strong] drinks and a state of relaxation [tipsy], we retired for the night, preparing for an eventful Saturday ahead.

Discovering the Monterey Bay Aquarium

Saturday started with a delightful breakfast from First Awakenings, a local spot that had been highly recommended. As we satisfied our appetites, we eagerly anticipated our visit to the renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium—an attraction that had captured our attention through targeted YouTube ads. Despite the sea otters not cooperating fully (they didn’t want to be seen so early in the day as they sat in the corner and groomed themselves LOL), the aquarium garnered four out of five stars in our review. We highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance to avoid long lines. While the venue was bustling with visitors, it did not hinder our enjoyment of the captivating exhibits.

Unforgettable Adventures on Cannery Row

Exploring the Local Wonders

After our aquarium exploration, we embarked on a leisurely stroll along Cannery Row, eventually arriving at the thrilling Mirror Maze. Our experience was a delightful challenge, testing our teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. However, be aware that the maze contains strobe lights and 3D glasses, which may not be suitable for those sensitive to light.

Whale Watching Extravaganza

Anticipation filled the air as we embarked on a whale-watching excursion. Despite the chilly weather, we prepared ourselves with warm clothing and even donned hoods. A valuable tip for future whale watchers: bring hand warmers for added comfort! We immersed ourselves fully in the moment, leaving little room for capturing photographs. Equipped with proper attire and motion sickness patches, we thoroughly enjoyed this awe-inspiring adventure.

Indulging in Relaxation at the Monterey Plaza Hotel Spa

One of the most cherished moments of our trip was the indulgent spa treatment at the Monterey Plaza Hotel. We reveled in eucalyptus soaks, accompanied by a delightful assortment of fruits, water, champagne, and a delectable charcuterie board.

In between our various activities, we savored the flavors of Monterey by exploring local restaurants, pastry shops, and enjoying memorable dinners. Additionally, we couldn’t resist the allure of a tarot reading, adding a touch of mystique to our trip (ya’ll know I’m all about the juju).
