5 Powerful Summer Habits That Are Protecting My Peace

2 min read

This summer is not about the grind. It’s about grace. It’s about reclaiming my time, peace, and presence in the most deliberate ways possible. I’m not just breezing through the season—I’m curating it. So here are five grounding, joy-giving practices I’m holding tight all summer long:

Returning to Therapy—No More Delays, No More Excuses
I stopped making “soon” a goal & made therapy a non-negotiable. The version of me I’m building needs support, strategy & space to feel things fully—not just perform strength. The work is hard, but it’s healing. And my therapist? She gets me together gently + thoroughly. Exactly my vibe.

Phone Off Fridays—Yes, That Includes You
Every Friday, my phone goes on Do Not Disturb and stays there. No calls. No texts. Just me, Sutton (my fluffy sidekick), sunshine & whatever feels right. Maybe that’s a walk. Maybe that’s a nap. Maybe it’s doing absolutely nothing & loving it. This boundary has been the biggest gift I’ve given myself in a long time.

Reading Over Scrolling—A Better Kind of Escape
This summer, I’m trading doomscrolls and highlight reels for pages that actually feed me. I’m deep in my Black romance era, and baby, these books are giving emotion, depth & softness. There’s something about falling into a good story that reminds me who I am—and who I want to be.

(Have recs? Drop them in the comments—I’m always looking to add to the list.)

Mocktails > Cocktails—Still Vibey, Just Clearer
I love a clinked glass & a good toast, but I’ve been reaching for something a little softer. Mocktails have been hitting all summer—refreshing, pretty & no headache the next morning. It’s not about restriction. It’s about choosing clarity, energy, and real joy in the moment. And let’s be real: I can romanticize sparkling water like it’s champagne.

Protecting My Peace Like It’s Designer
I’m being picky about where my energy goes. If it doesn’t feel expansive, grounding, or deliciously fun—it’s a no. My peace is premium & this summer, it’s staying unbothered.

Whether you’re in your outside era or your inward glow-up era, I hope you’re creating a summer that actually nourishes you. Not the one social media sells—but one that feels like yours.

Tell me: what’s one practice you’re holding onto this season? And if you’ve got any book recs (especially in the Black romance lane), drop them in the comments—I’m building a hot girl book club over here.
